Following the Dark Mario is another Mario universe created by Ted Lange which involves the son of Mario.

A kid from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn wandered the underbelly of New York. He had found the derelict chamber known as the "Warp Zone" pretty quickly. The map left by his uncle Luigi made the sewer system easy to navigate. The inscriptions on the pipes were vague. What was world 1-1? He found out soon enough. The Warp dropped him off in a strange landscape overrun with toadstools (some of them sentient). An entire microverse existing perpendicular to New York. Now all he had to do was follow Luigi's instructions. Climb the stairs at the far end of the world, jump off the top and tag the flag in front of the castle. It sounded simple enough. But was it?

As you can see there is some backstory behind this one and I can only hope Ted carries it further or asks the help of the public because I'm sure a great story could be created out of it. And I think Luigi is trying to get his nephew in trouble because he isn't too fond of all the glory that Mario receives.

Add this with the Dark Mario and I'm pretty much determined to convince Nintendo to make a different type of Mario game with a completely different theme driving it. As great as Mario is a side story with a change of pace just seems too awesome to me to pass up. But alas, we know it will never be done and we are left waiting for Super Mario Galaxy while playing Super Paper Mario.

I guess life isn't that bad.
